Lesson 7 – Goodness

Question 7

Illustration: From the Old Testament – Hosea and Gomer and the goodness extended

Hosea and Gomer Hosea 1 – 3
Hosea 1 Hosea was asked to do something unbelievable – marry an actively practicing prostitute.
Why? – to illustrate how Israel had departed from the Lord and committed great harlotry. And it appears that the woman Hosea will marry, Gomer will continue to have children by other men while married to Hosea.
“When the LORD began to speak by Hosea, the LORD said to Hosea: "Go, take yourself a wife of harlotry And children of harlotry, For the land has committed great harlotry By departing from the LORD." (Hosea 1:2 NKJV)
Hosea married Gomer:
Three children were born in the judgment of God toward Israel.
1) Jezreel: God will sow or that which God planted (Hosea 1:4)
The valley where Ahab’s wife Jezebel (1 Kings 21:1-10);had Naboth killed for his vineyard. and Jehu killed Jezebel for her wickedness by the command of the Lord. (2 Kings 9:15)
2) Lo-Ruhamah: no mercy – (Hosea 1:6-7)
The Lord would cut off Israel and no longer show mercy
3) Lo-Ammi: not my people – (Hosea 1:8-9)
The Lord would now call Israel, “Not My people.”
But there is a promise of hope: vs 10-11
"Yet the number of the children of Israel Shall be as the sand of the sea, Which cannot be measured or numbered. And it shall come to pass In the place where it was said to them, 'You are not My people,' There it shall be said to them, 'You are sons of the living God.' (11) Then the children of Judah and the children of Israel Shall be gathered together, And appoint for themselves one head (reference to Jesus); And they shall come up out of the land, For great will be the day of Jezreel!” (Hosea 1:10-11 NKJV)
