In the next three verses, we find our word: [G19] agathos-synē
2. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness [G19] agathos-synē, faithfulness,” (Galatians 5:22 NKJV)
Paul uses the word again when describing the fruit of the Spirit.
3. “(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness [G19] agathos-synē, righteousness, and truth),” (Ephesians 5:9 NKJV)
Extra qualities of the fruit here (I won’t add these). But quickly when you read the fruit of the Spirit is righteousness and truth – do you see that these qualities point us to Jesus and the Cross? Where does our righteousness come from?
“For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.” (2 Corinthians 5:21)
Where do we go for truth?
“Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” (John 14:6 NKJV)
Only through the Cross are we able to come before God as righteous because we went through the Truth, Jesus. We do not muster-up these fruits in our own strength and self-will. It is Holy Spirit produced.
4. “Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of this calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness [G19] agathos-synē and the work of faith with power, (12) that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ.” (2 Thessalonians 1:11-12 NKJV)
Paul’s prayer for the church, in light of the Gospel, God’s goodness would fill us… - our faith would be seen with power, and the name of Jesus would be glorified. Oh, may this be the testimony of His church around the world and this church as the fruit of the Spirit matures and grows in each one of us.
