Hosea 3 shows us Hosea’s life and goodness to his wife, Gomer.
A shadow of the Cross.
“Then the LORD said to me, "Go again, love a woman who is loved by a lover and is committing adultery, just like the love of the LORD for the children of Israel, who look to other gods and love the raisin cakes of the pagans." (Hosea 3:1 NKJV)
Oh my! Now the Lord is telling Hosea to go back to this adulteress wife who has found herself sold into the slavery of prostitution.
Then Hosea obeys with an attitude of “not my will, but Yours be done.”
“So I bought her for myself for fifteen shekels of silver, and one and one-half homers of barley.” (Hosea 3:2 NKJV)
Do you see Jesus? Jesus said that He would buy us from the slave market of sin. But it was the price of His blood, shed on the Cross. That blood has redeemed us.
Then Hosea says to Gomer:
“And I said to her, "You shall stay with me many days; you shall not play the harlot, nor shall you have a man--so, too, will I be toward you." (Hosea 3:3 NKJV)
When Jesus redeems us, purchases us with His blood, we are now His; we are to stay with Him for many days (can you say forever?). We are to no longer practice the works of the flesh but walk in the Spirit because, like Hosea’s goodness toward Gomer in purchasing her from slavery, Jesus has shown us His goodness at the Cross by purchasing us from our bondage of sin by His blood.

“Now the works of the flesh are evident, which are: adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lewdness, (20) idolatry, sorcery, hatred, contentions, jealousies, outbursts of wrath, selfish ambitions, dissensions, heresies, (21) envy, murders, drunkenness, revelries, and the like; of which I tell you beforehand, just as I also told you in time past, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God.” (Galatians 5:19-21 NKJV)
