Lesson 8 – Faithfulness

Question 2

So, where does this faith come from?

“So, then faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." (Romans 10:17 NKJV)
Faith comes by hearing - When we hear the Word (rhema) of God. Rhema means that which is or has been uttered by the living voice.
Jesus used this word rhema:
“But He answered and said, "It is written, 'Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word (rhema) that proceeds from the mouth of God.' " (Matthew 4:4 NKJV)
“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, [God breathed] and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (17) that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV)

Paul used this word hearing in the context of faith in Galatians:
“This only I want to learn from you: Did you receive the Spirit by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith? ... (5) Therefore He who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you, does He do it by the works of the law, or by the hearing of faith?” (Galatians 3:2, 5 NKJV)
