Lesson 1 - Overview
Question 6
Here is the list of benefits that I found:
Blessed with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places
Be holy and without blame before Him in love
Adopted by Jesus Christ to Himself
Made accepted in the Beloved
Redemption through His blood
Forgiveness of sins
Know the mystery of His will (the Gospel)
Obtained an inheritance
Salvation
Sealed with the Holy Spirit who is the guarantee of our inheritance
Yes, those trusting in Jesus and believe the Gospel (Jesus' death, burial, and resurrection) will be saved and sealed with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is God's guarantee of our inheritance and salvation.
We are being blessed with the promise of Abraham because through faith in Christ Jesus, we received the promise of the Spirit.
"that the blessing of Abraham might come upon the Gentiles in Christ Jesus, that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith." (Galatians 3:14 NKJV)
Compare the works of the Flesh vs. the Fruit of the Spirit.
Galatians 5:16-26 will help us as we focus on the fruit of the Spirit and contrast this fruit with the works of the flesh.
We are in a real battle between our flesh and the Spirit:
"I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. (17) For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish. (18) But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law." (Galatians 5:16-18 NKJV)
We see Paul describing this battle in Romans 7:7-25. For the Christian, there is a real struggle with sin. Our flesh wants to do one thing, and the Holy Spirit leads us to do something else.
6. What contrast do we see between walking in the Spirit and fulfilling the lust of the flesh in Galatians 5:16-18?
