Day 14. Third Principle of Freedom

Question 3

Now, let's consider how Jesus won at the cross. He won by dying. You too can experience victory by joining Him at His cross and dying to sin. When you die with Christ, you are set free from the bondage of sin.
“For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin — because anyone who has died has been set free from sin.”
Romans 6:6-7
This is your true identity! Your old self, the self that loved the thrill of sin, has died in the body of Jesus Christ. We will discuss this much more in the upcoming lessons on our identity.
While not everyone may embrace the idea of being a soldier at war, it is important not to rely on our own understanding (Proverbs 3:5–6). The enemy wants you to reject the mentality of fighting against sin and your flesh.
The world, your flesh, and the devil want you to make peace with sin, believing that you can “manage” it instead. These are lies that will only keep you in bondage. Even if being a soldier doesn't come naturally, it is a biblical calling we must embrace to experience true freedom.
“Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand.”
Ephesians 6:13
The third foundational principle of freedom is “Warring against the flesh.”
