Day 19. Our Identity in Christ

Question 1

“I learned the other day that the root of the word ‘addict’ means a ‘debt slave’. This was one who owed a great debt and had hired themselves out to work to try to pay off what they owed. I was a debt slave serving sin, but Jesus paid my debt, thereby setting me free! I’m no longer a debt slave; I’m a freed captive! #addictnolonger!” David
We were united with Christ in His death, burial, and resurrection. Water baptism is a physical picture of this spiritual truth. When we go under the waters in baptism, we are showing that our old self died with Christ, our old labels relating to sin were washed away; and when we come up out of the water, we show that we were raised with Christ to walk in a new life where our identity is in Christ alone.
“We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life”
Romans 6:4

“We’ve been united with Christ in His death and resurrection; For if we have been united with him in a death like his, we will certainly also be united with him in a resurrection like his”
Romans 6:5
If we died with Christ to our old life and were raised up with Christ, it’s clear that we can and must live a new life in Christ. We have a new identity now!
