Lesson 14 Experiencing Unity and Identity with Jesus

Questions 3 and 4

For the next few lessons, we will see that the world’s method of trapping us in identities related to our struggle and sin are simply Satan’s way of keeping us enslaved, whereas the truth of God’s Word, regarding our identity in Christ, will set us free.
Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free!
John 8:32 (NIV)
God's Empowering Grace
So, let’s begin with our study for today. Please read the following passage and answer the questions below:
What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? 2 By no means! We are those who have died to sin; how can we live in it any longer? 3 Or don't you know that all of us who were baptized into Christ Jesus were baptized into his death? 4 We were therefore buried with him through baptism into death in order that, just as Christ was raised from the dead through the glory of the Father, we too may live a new life.
Romans 6:1-4 (NIV)
Paul had previously told the Romans that “where sin increased grace increased all the more” (Romans 5:20). It is common for new believers to understand this the wrong way and end up with a wrong view of grace, believing that they can just keep sinning, keep falling, keep gratifying their flesh because grace covers it all. This is a misunderstanding of what grace does. True gospel grace teaches us to live differently and empowers us to change:
For the grace of God has appeared that offers salvation to all people. It teaches us to say “No” to ungodliness and worldly passions and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in this present age...
Titus 2:11-12 (NIV)
