Lesson 9: Adding Nothing to the Message of the Cross

“As for those who were held in high esteem—whatever they were makes no difference to me; God does not show favoritism - they added nothing to my message.” Galatians 2:6 NIV
“Then Moses summoned all the elders of Israel and said to them, “Go at once and select the animals for your families and slaughter the Passover lamb. 22 Take a bunch of hyssop, dip it into the blood in the basin and put some of the blood on the top and on both sides of the doorframe. None of you shall go out of the door of your house until morning. 23 When the Lord goes through the land to strike down the Egyptians, he will see the blood on the top and sides of the doorframe and will pass over that doorway, and he will not permit the destroyer to enter your houses and strike you down.” Exodus 12:21-23 NIV
From the teaching today:
“Whatever we add to the cross, we subtract from it. If the Israelites really wanted to make sure they were saved … they should go look at the blood….: “Yes, it is really there, the destroying angel is going to see that blood and he is going to pass over me. He is going to see the death already happened and therefore I will live because the lamb died! I am saved and I am about to be set free because the lamb died.” And God gets the credit. Why? Christ, our Passover Lamb, has been slain. We do not need to add anything to that message.”
