Lesson 30: Stand Still and Love as You are Being Loved at the Cross

Question 1

Marco Polo of Mike’s teaching: Monday 2nd August 2021

“But we who live by the Spirit eagerly wait to receive by faith the righteousness God has promised to us. For when we place our faith in Christ Jesus, there is no benefit in being circumcised or being uncircumcised. What is important is faith expressing itself in love.”
Galatians 5:5-6 NLT
“But Moses told the people, “Don’t be afraid. Just stand still and watch the LORD rescue you today. The Egyptians you see today will never be seen again. The LORD himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.”
Exodus 14:13-14 NLT
“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured out into our hearts through the Holy Spirit, who has been given to us.”
Romans 5:5 NIV
From the teaching today:
“What do we do having believed in Jesus and then discover that we still have flesh? We still have sin living in us. What do we do when we discover that we are not actually living in righteousness? We have received righteousness credited to our account but sometimes our life and living do not measure up because we still have flesh…
What do believers who walk by the Spirit do about this lack of total righteousness, this flesh that we still have with us? We eagerly wait to receive it. We know that God has promised us complete righteousness when we are in heaven, when we have new bodies and when we have no flesh. And not until then. So we do not turn to the law to make up for what is lacking. We simply wait. We eagerly wait. We could word it like this: Don’t just do something. Stand there!
You remember when the Israelites were being pursued by the armies of Pharoah, and Moses said: “Don’t be afraid, just stand still. Watch the Lord rescue you today…”
Don’t do something, just stand there! What do we do when our old sins pursue us when the old slave master comes calling?
STAND STILL. Eagerly wait. Look at the cross where the Lord rescued you, where He drowned all your sins in the Red Sea of Jesus’ blood. Eagerly wait to receive the promised righteousness, don’t pursue it through the law.”
