Lesson 21 The Cross is Our Red Sea
Questions 1 and 2
Dear friend, welcome back to The Gospel For The Church course.
Today we want to see an amazing picture that God gave us to reveal the cross. It is the story of the Passover Lamb saving the lives of the Israelites, then setting them free from slavery, and what happened shortly after that event. This story is given to us specifically that we might “see” the salvation of the Lord.
As you know the Israelites were freed from their miserable life of slavery by slaughtering a lamb and applying the blood to the doorposts (Exodus 12:7). Now escaping with all the treasure gathered from the Egyptians and free from their 430 years of slavery they come up to the Red Sea.
The Red Sea was ahead of them and Pharoah and his army coming after them. You can hear the Egyptian chariots thundering, the horses galloping and the earth rumbling under their feet as the army was closing in on God’s people.
“When Pharaoh drew near, the people of Israel lifted up their eyes, and behold, the Egyptians were marching after them, and they feared greatly. And the people of Israel cried out to the Lord. 11 They said to Moses, “Is it because there are no graves in Egypt that you have taken us away to die in the wilderness? What have you done to us in bringing us out of Egypt? 12 Is not this what we said to you in Egypt: ‘Leave us alone that we may serve the Egyptians’? For it would have been better for us to serve the Egyptians than to die in the wilderness.” Exodus 14:10-12 (ESV)
