Lesson 1 The Chief Goal of the Church
Questions 7 and 8
This is why our desire here at Setting Captives Free is to be a gospel only ministry. We do not want to turn from the One who purchased us and forgave our sin with His blood while on the cross for us. We do not want our message to change into a different gospel which has no power to change the human heart.
We want to lift up the one message that has the power to change the heart, the gospel, which means “good news.” Remember the good news is always one message with two parts: 1) Jesus died for our sins according to the Scriptures and was buried, and 2) Jesus was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures and was seen by many.
Galatians 1:6-7 ESV I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel— 7 not that there is another one, but there are some who trouble you and want to distort the gospel of Christ.
Question 7: According to Galatians 1:7 what is the purpose of another gospel?
Yes, the purpose of “another gospel” is to trouble others and distort the gospel of Christ. Notice Acts 20:29-31:
"I know that after my departure fierce wolves will come in among you, not sparing the flock; 30 and from among your own selves will arise men speaking twisted things, to draw away the disciples after them. 31 Therefore be alert, remembering that for three years I did not cease night or day to admonish every one with tears." Acts 20:29-31
Question 8: How does Acts 20:29-31 apply to our study today? And why was Paul warning them with tears?
