Lesson 2 The Gospel–One Message With Two Parts: The Death

Questions 1 and 2

Welcome back to the course, The Gospel for the Church. We are so thankful to have you back studying with us.
Today, we’re going to be focusing our attention on one of the two parts of the gospel. As we stated in lesson 1, the gospel is really “one message” with two parts: 1) Jesus died for our sins according to the Scriptures. 2) Jesus was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures (1 Corinthians 15:3-4). So today we’ll focus our attention on the cross, or the first part of the gospel.
The “good news” of the gospel is one message with two parts:
  1. The death
  2. The resurrection
Let’s notice the central importance of the death of Jesus, as well as the results of it:
Ephesians 1:4-7 ESV even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love 5 he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, 6 to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. 7 In him, we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace.

Question 1: According to Ephesians 1:4, when did God plan on sending His Son to the cross, and what was the purpose?
