Lesson 2 The Gospel–One Message With Two Parts: The Death
Questions 3 and 4
Yes, God “chose us” in Him before the foundation of the world that we should be “holy and blameless before him” and “in love” He adopted us (you were legally made His child) to Himself to become children “through Jesus Christ.” That is, through His death on the cross, He purchased our adoption with blood. This was the purpose of His will and “to the praise of his glorious grace.”
Now think about this just for a moment with me. At the cross Jesus would become as if he were unholy and was blamed for your sin, so you would become holy and blameless. At the cross Jesus, “The Son,” was rejected by His Father so you could be accepted by being adopted “as sons” through Jesus Christ to the Father. Jesus, who knew no sin, became sin for you to purchase your adoption with His life so you could become part of the family of God.
Ephesians 1:7 ESV In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,
Question 3: According to Ephesians 1:7, what is the height, or pinnacle of God’s rich grace, and what have we received as a result of it?

Friend, isn't’ it amazing that God would “buy us back” or “purchase” us through the blood of Jesus while on the cross? The cross is the pinnacle of God's rich grace, the place He purchased the forgiveness of our trespasses and sins. It’s the place we became holy and blameless and the place Jesus became sin for us, “For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
Notice again the importance of the cross, and the accomplishments of it:
Romans 8:3 ESV “For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh”...
Do you see that Jesus was condemned on the cross, in His flesh, and in your place? This is why there isn’t any condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus (Romans 8:1). Because Jesus was crushed on the cross you are made whole. Because Jesus was judged on the cross you are set free. Because Jesus became a curse on the cross you receive God’s blessing (Galatians 3:13; Deuteronomy 21:23). “For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but in order that the world might be saved through him” (John 3:17). Saved “through” the doorway of the cross where Jesus was condemned and we were set free!
Question 4: According to Romans 8:3, what did God do because the law was weakened by the flesh?
