Lesson 8 The Spirit and The Cross

Questions 5 and 6

We see that the Spirit was received by faith by those who heard the message of the cross. This is the same way in which we receive the Spirit today, hearing by faith. But it is also the message we are to keep looking to so we do not fall back into walking in the flesh.
Galatians 3:5 Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith—

Question 5: What is the connection between the two statements, “who supplies the Spirit to you” and “works miracles among you?

When we look at the cross and believe the message we receive the Spirit. He then “works miracles among us.” That is, we become new creations. We become focused heavenword instead of having our minds set on the flesh and the things of earth. We experience the miracle of walking by the Spirit rather than walking by the flesh and the law (that never had the power to change us or set us free). “But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth” (Acts 1:8).

Question 6: When we preach and teach the gospel, “that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified” and raised from the dead, some will hear, believe and receive the Spirit which will create a “new creation” miracle in them.
