Lesson 13: Your New Identity Hidden in Christ

Question 4

“When Christ, who is your life, appears, then you also will appear with him in glory” Colossians 3:4 NIV
This verse shows that our new lives at the cross are not the same, but have been forever changed. Our old nature that loved to sin has been put to death at the cross. Our old attitudes. Our old sinful anger. Our old identities were paid for by Jesus who purchased us at a very high price (1 Corinthians 6:20). Christ has now become our life and together we strive daily in this new hope.
In Christ, and only through unity in His death and resurrection are we able to “Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry” (Colossians 3:5 NIV). Only in Christ can we rest in His finished work on the cross. Only in Christ are we seated at the right hand of God where Jesus' work is complete and we find rest from our own labor. Only in Christ can a marriage be free from our identity with sin and hidden in Christ. Only in Christ can all idols be put to death. And only in Christ can our marriages find the forgiveness and unity we all so desperately need.

Question 4. Are you coming together to the cross daily, seeing that through Jesus’ sacrifice your hearts are set free and through His resurrection you are seated with Christ at God’s right hand? Please share.

We no longer have to hide like Adam and Eve did in fear after their fall because our lives are hidden in Christ and in the love and grace that has been freely given to us through Jesus’ death. Friend, since we have been raised with Christ to our new life, let us set our hearts and minds together on things above, for one day we will appear with Him in glory.
