Lesson 16: Our Debt Has Been Canceled
Questions 3, 4 and 5
"having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross." Colossians 2:14
Jesus was condemned to die a horrible death because of our sin debt! Our sin debt was pounded in His hands and feet! He was marred so badly on that cross because He was bearing our punishment, paying our debt and under our judgement! Yes, it was our sin and shame that disfigured the King of heaven and earth and why He was poured out like water and why all His bones were out of joint (Psalm 22:14)! He could barely breathe while paying our sin debt, gasping for air with each breath! All because Jesus became SIN FOR US! And your sin and mine was PUT TO DEATH in Jesus’ flesh! He canceled the monumental Mountain of debt that was standing against us, condemning us and He paid it all IN FULL for you. Not to just go to heaven but to be free and forgiven today. To be set free from our mountain of sin debt that we earned by our wages of sin (Romans 6:23)! He drove the nails through your sin and buried all of it in the tomb! And on the third day when Jesus rose from the grave, you rose with Him 'debt free' and can now live a powerful new life in Christ free of condemnation!

Isn’t God so amazing? How many times have you heard the gavel come down and the judge say, “You are forgiven, your debt is paid in full, you are dismissed,” all because of the beautiful ugly cross Jesus took up and died on. This is what our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ has done for you and I.
Aren’t you so thankful that we are free in Christ from all our sins, all our debts and all condemnation? We stand before God without a single fault! Can you hardly believe it!? In God’s courtroom, we see the wood, the hammer, the nails and the offering. And because of the death of Jesus Christ on your behalf, you and I are free in God’s eyes from all accusations, past, present and future. Jesus was pierced, crushed, judged and put under the sentence of death for all of our sins, to clear us from every fault, and to bring us into His presence! And isn’t it wonderful that He never reminds us of our sins? (Psalm 103:12)
Question 5. Picture yourself standing in God’s courtroom, what can you hear Jesus saying to you based on the work of the cross? Please share.

“Yet now he has reconciled you to himself through the death of Christ in his physical body. As a result, he has brought you into his own presence, and you are holy and blameless as you stand before him without a single fault.” Colossians 1:22
Debt canceled! PAID IN FULL! You are forgiven! Oh, may this cause your heart to be overjoyed! May you run and not grow weary! May you sing and shout for joy! May you serve Him will all that you are! Although you can never pay Him back, may you serve Him as if you could!
