Lesson 6: Walking Together in The Way of Love

Question 4

Dear friend, in Ephesians 5:3-6, we see that Jesus nailed our sinful flesh to death, we are crucified with Christ, set free from the passions that once controlled us and free from the desires of the flesh that held us captive. Notice also in this passage that Jesus set captives free from sexual impurity, greed, foolish talk, coarse joking, and set thanksgiving into our hearts by forgiving us at the cost of His own life.
Further, Ephesians 5:8-14 shows us that we who were once in darkness have become children of light so we are to live as children of light. Because of the cross we now have the ability through the Spirit of God to walk in Holiness as He is Holy and in the Light as He is the Light. And through Jesus’ sacrifice the moment we placed our faith in the message of the gospel we received the Spirit, whereby we can walk by the Spirit in the way of love, life, and liberty.
“Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
Ephesians 5:18-20 NIV
Jesus already prepared a place of pardon for us from every sin while hanging on the cross, not with silver or gold but with His own precious blood.
“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed from the empty way of life handed down to you from your ancestors, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ, a lamb without blemish or defect.”
1 Peter 1:18-19
This is how your marriage is united in ‘the love of God, the power of Christ, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.’
As we bring this lesson to a close, we want to pray for you and with you. Please join us in prayer then write out your own with your final thoughts or question(s) you might have.
Our Father in heaven we pray for this precious marriage. That they would walk in the way of love and in the fellowship of the Holy Spirit.  Together may they look to the cross where we find the example; the love of God in the sacrifice of the Son, a fragrant offering and sacrifice to God. May this cause a stirring in their hearts that they might be bound together in perfect unity and love—just as Christ loved us and gave Himself up for us. May this precious couple walk in the example of God at the cross of Christ and give themselves up, being filled with the Spirit of God while speaking to one another in love, psalms, hymns and spiritual songs while worshiping the Lord from their hearts. In Jesus’ name. Amen!
