Four critical things happened to you the moment you believed the gospel:
In Christ, you were totally forgiven for all your sins - past, present, and future.
You died and rose with Jesus and are now a new creation.
God took out your heart of stone and gave you a new heart and a new spirit.
God put his Spirit in you.
You were totally forgiven. "But our High Priest offered himself to God as a single sacrifice for sins, good for all time. Then he sat down in the place of honor at God’s right hand." Hebrews 10:12
"As far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us." Psalm 103:12
You died and rose again. "I have been crucified with Christ and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me. The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me." Galatians 2:20
God took out your heart of stone and gave you a new heart and spirit. "I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh." Ezekiel 36:26
God put his Spirit in you. "And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws." Ezekiel 36:27
So the bottom line is this: upon believing the gospel message, you were made a new creation in Christ! The old has passed and the new has come! (2 Corinthians 5:17). You are totally new! You have been forgiven and given a new heart and spirit. God’s Spirit lives inside you! You are the temple of God! Wherever you go, He is with you, and if He lives in you he will never leave or forsake you (Hebrews 13:5). This is why the gospel is good news! Now you can live as the totally new person God re-created you to be. You can live from your new heart that he has given you, the new spirit he has put in you, and His Spirit that lives in you.

This is what this marriage course is all about and why we called it "Marriage and the Gospel." One final thought before we close today. Remember how we started with Matthew 15:19? “For out of the heart come evil thoughts--murder, adultery, sexual immorality, theft, false testimony, slander.” This shows that prior to receiving Jesus Christ as Savior, our hearts were only evil all the time. Now we leave you with the following verse to show what comes out of our new hearts.
"Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, ‘Out of his heart will flow rivers of living water.’” 39 Now this he said about the Spirit, whom those who believed in him were to receive, for as yet the Spirit had not been given, because Jesus was not yet glorified." John 7:38-39
You are totally new! So you can live out your new lives in your marriage! And as you do, your marriage will experience forgiveness, love, and unity like never before! If you are joined in a powerful spiritual union with Jesus, then this allows for a powerful earthly union in marriage.
Question 4. Are you willing to live out who you are in Christ to each other? Please share.
