Lesson 25 God Opens our Hearts in Prayer
Questions 1 and 2
Prayer (Talking with God) is so addicting!
Have you ever been using media in such a way that you absolutely loved it and wanted to share it with your friends or other people? I mean, we were addicted to it and so we thought others would find it as fascinating as we did, right? You might have used the words, “you have to experience it to know what I mean!”
That is precisely the way I feel about prayer now. I used to see prayer as a drudgery, something I was supposed to do, something boring that I would even fall asleep during. But now, I am addicted to prayer.
Question 1. What has been your experience with prayer up to this point?

My experience of finding prayer to be dull and boring was before God started interacting with me in prayer. It is now a two-way conversation where I’ve learned to listen to Him in prayer and respond to Him in prayer, thereby interacting with the Living God! It’s amazing and powerful!
I put this day about prayer after our previous days about studying God’s Word, because when we study God’s Word our mind becomes renewed; in other words, our thoughts are literally swimming in Bible passages, in the gospel, in thoughts of Jesus, etc. And that’s the time to pray! Because when we are full of God’s Word, we are able to pray in the Spirit often praying the Word back to God.
But before we get too far into this subject of prayer, we need to remember that Jesus is the One Who opened up the way for us to come into God’s presence in prayer. Before the cross, our access directly to God was blocked because of our sin, and God would not hear. Notice these passages:
Isaiah 1:15 NIV When you spread out your hands in prayer, I hide my eyes from you; even when you offer many prayers, I am not listening. Your hands are full of blood!
Isaiah 59:2 NIV But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.
Question 2. Why would God not hear the prayer of people who were still in their sins?
