Lesson 14 Finding the Treasure of Jesus in the Bible

Question 5

Keep this in mind: this passage was written 700 years before Jesus was even born. Yet it tells us that He was born to take our pain, bear our suffering, receive our punishment and die our death. He was punished and pierced, crushed and cursed on the cross, assigned a grave with the rich man (named Joseph), and through His death, He became an offering for our sin.
But that wasn’t all, Jesus didn’t stay dead, but rather after He suffered He would “see the light of life”, as He would be raised from the dead on the third day. Through His resurrection, He would “justify many” (verse 11) even as Paul says in Romans 4:25 “He was delivered over to death for our sins and was raised to life for our justification.”
Do you see how God foretold the gospel in the Old Testament, long before Jesus was born? And more importantly, do you believe that Jesus suffered and was pierced for you, and was raised from the dead for you? Or are you coming to believe this based on the evidence God is giving you in His word? I pray that you are.
Finding Jesus in His Word like this is truly an experience that draws us to Him, and makes us long for Him even more. It’s like He creates a thirst in us to go looking for Him and then when we find Him our thirst is quenched and we get so excited at the discovery.
And the wonderful thing is this: the Bible is a big book! We could open it up to any passage we want and begin reading, and eventually, Jesus would reveal Himself to us yet again, and we would see the gospel and drink from the spring of living water.
After you are finished with this lesson today, I encourage you to take just a minute and read through Psalm chapter 22. If you don’t have a Bible, you can go to Bible Gateway or Blue Letter Bible or Bible Hub and read from an online Bible. As you read in Psalm 22, see what God reveals to you about Jesus. I’ll ask you about it in the next lesson.
Speaking of the next lesson, there is something extremely important that will connect you to the gospel in a real way. If this is missing, the gospel will be dead and boring to you, but if you have this one thing then it will be alive and exciting to you. This is what we will study in the next lesson.

Question 5. It has been two weeks of lessons since you first began studying with us here. Would you take a moment and let us know how you are doing presently? Specifically, is God calling you away from addiction to media and calling you to become addicted to Jesus and the gospel? Please share your thoughts:

Hse writes, “Yes, I believe God is calling me to come to Jesus instead of social media. Because that is where I would find my satisfaction and I believe that God wants me to receive what he has prepared for me.”
