Lesson 15 Essential Connection to the Gospel

Questions 1 and 2

Hello and welcome back, glad to have you on day 15 today. Let’s begin our study.

Question 1. In the last lesson, I encouraged you to read through Psalm 22 and let us know where you saw the gospel. Did you do that? If so, where do you see the gospel in Psalm 22?

In today’s lesson, I want to show you that there is something that has to happen in order for us to get any benefit out of the gospel at all. Without this, the gospel will be dull and boring to us, and we’ll lose out on all its benefits. With this one thing in our lives, the gospel will be full of intrigue and excitement, it will fill our hearts and minds and will provide us with the lasting benefits that God designed for it to do.
Take a moment and think back to the times when media was the most appealing to you. When did it capture your attention the most?
The most likely answer is that media became addicting to us when we believed it had something to offer us, right? We believed media would meet a certain need we had so we turned to it and we found what we wanted (at least, for a little while). In those moments, we put our faith in media to satisfy our cravings, to meet our needs, or to provide us something we thought was missing.
This “belief” or “faith” is the exact thing needed for the gospel to overpower our media addiction and to capture our hearts and interests in the same way that media used to do. Notice the following Scriptures that teach this:
Romans 3:25 NIV  God presented Christ as a sacrifice of atonement, through the shedding of his blood—to be received by faith. He did this to demonstrate his righteousness, because in his forbearance he had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished—
Romans 5:1-2 NIV  Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ,  (2)  through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we boast in the hope of the glory of God.
Romans 10:17 NIV  Consequently, faith comes from hearing the message, and the message is heard through the word about Christ.
Galatians 3:9 NIV  So those who rely on faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
Galatians 3:23 NIV  Before the coming of this faith, we were held in custody under the law, locked up until the faith that was to come would be revealed.
Ephesians 2:8 NIV  For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God
Ephesians 3:12 NIV  In him and through faith in him we may approach God with freedom and confidence.
Ephesians 6:16 NIV  In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one.
Colossians 2:12 NIV  having been buried with him in baptism, in which you were also raised with him through your faith in the working of God, who raised him from the dead.

Question 2. What are some things you learn by reading through the above list of verses?
