Lesson 13 Jesus is Our Substitute

Questions 2 and 3

Adam and Eve hid from God as they didn’t want to be caught and found out. They also sewed fig leaves together and tried to cover themselves with those fig leaves, as if that would cover up what they had done. They didn’t like to feel “naked and exposed” to the searching eyes of God but wanted something in which they could hide.
But they quickly discovered: “Nothing in all creation is hidden from God. Everything is naked and exposed before his eyes, and he is the one to whom we are accountable” (Hebrews 4:13 NLT). There just isn’t any way to hide from God. Adam and Eve eventually had to give an account to God, as we all do.
Because God is holy, He requires justice. He says, “The one who sins is the one who will die” (Ezekiel 18:20 NIV) and “the wages of sin is death(Romans 6:23). Adam and Eve knew that God said about the forbidden fruit, “the day you eat of it you will die (Genesis 2:17).
The good news is that God is not only a God of justice, He is also a God of love. And in love, God implemented a plan whereby Adam and Eve could live and not die.
"And the LORD God made for Adam and for his wife garments of skins and clothed them." (Genesis 3:21 ESV)

Question 2. What did God do so that Adam and Eve could live (Genesis 3:21)?

Yes, God put to death an animal and clothed His children with the skins of that animal. This is where the story becomes interesting and exciting, and it is where the treasure hunt takes us.

Something had to die so that the people could live.

And this is the main teaching in all the Bible. In fact, if you can understand this teaching you now have a key to unlock every part of the entire Bible. If some part of Scripture is not clear, use this key to unlock the passage.
So let’s see this main teaching presented very clearly:
John 3:16-17 NIV  For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.  (17)  For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Question 3. According to John 3:16-17, what is the purpose that God sent His Son to this world?
