Lesson 13 Jesus is Our Substitute
Question 4
God sent His Son into this world because of love, and so that humanity could live and not die.
We have all done wrong; we have broken God’s law which requires perfection or death. Like Adam and Eve we have sinned, we’ve not lived perfectly, and so we are under the death sentence because of it. But God loves us. His heart of love could not bear to see the entire world condemned to death, so He sent His Son Jesus to be condemned in our place, to die instead of us so that we could live.
So Jesus took on Himself all our sins and God His Father treated Him as if He were guilty, and put Him to death. This is so that God can treat you and me as if we are innocent, and give us eternal life.
Question 4. How does the story of the substitute that died in place of Adam and Eve (Genesis 3:21), point forward to the story of Jesus Christ that we read above in John 3:16-17?
