Yes, these things are “idolatry.” Idolatry is the worship of a false god. To commit idolatry, we must set something up in our minds as worthy of worship; then we bow down to it in worship. This is what sexual immorality and all forms of impurity are—idolatry.
But you know the wonderful thing about this? When we experience God’s grace to turn from sin and put it to death, and we turn to God in repentance, we begin to experience true worship of the Living God. And words cannot even tell the exquisite enjoyment we can find in true worship. It is something like drinking a cold beverage on a hot day when we drink and then say “ahhh”; and yet it is far beyond this; it truly defies description.
