Lesson 15 Washing at the Cross: Bond-Slaves of Jesus

Question 7

Jesus Christ came to this earth to serve humanity (Matthew 20:28 NIV). He could have left anytime He wanted (Matthew 26:53 ISV), but instead, He chose to stay, out of love, knowing full well that would mean going to the cross and being pierced.
“…he was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed” (Isaiah 53:5 ESV).
And now, if you should ever question Jesus’ love for you, please remember His scars. Jesus says to you, “Behold, I have engraved you on the palms of my hands” (Isaiah 49:16 ESV). Remember the blood He shed for you. Remember the death He died for you. And let that be proof that, like the bond-slave who chose to stay, He loves you.
Just as Jesus came to this earth to be a Bond-Slave, so now you are to follow Him. He loved you unto death; then He rose to justify you before God. Do you believe this?
If you believe this gospel, then the only response is to love Him back and become His bond-slave for life. “Likewise he who was free when called is a bondservant of Christ” (1 Corinthians 7:22 ESV). This is happy slavery, most blessed slavery, slavery that we choose because of love.
“The passion of Christianity is that I deliberately sign away my rights and become a bond-slave of Jesus Christ.” (Oswald Chambers, My Utmost for His Highest-- A Bond Slave of Jesus).
Have you deliberately signed away your rights to your flesh? Paul did, and he said, “From now on let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus” (Galatians 6:17 ESV).
There is only one way to be free from sin: we must hear the gospel again and again, and we must believe it and apply it thereby becoming “obedient from our heart” to the gospel, becoming a bond-slave of Christ and a slave of righteousness. This sets us free!
As I was learning this truth about being a bond-slave, I was already a Christian, but I had not understood all that was involved in being a bond-slave, but God kept showing me the gospel! Oh, the powerful gospel! I kept reading it, kept hearing it, kept feeling it! And finally, I got on my knees and said:
“Yes, Lord, Yes. I desperately want to be your bond-slave even as you were mine.”

Question 7. Maybe you’d like to offer yourself as a bond-slave of Jesus Christ. Consider the cost. But also consider the gospel, and know that Jesus accepts anyone who wants to be His bond-slave, no matter who you are or what you have done. Feel free to write out your request to God here.
