Lesson 17 Warring Against Our Flesh: Confessing And Prayer
Question 1
Greetings and welcome. Today’s lesson is important and deserves careful consideration so let’s get right to it.
The Christian life begins with confession. As we hear the gospel and the Holy Spirit convicts us of sin, we respond by confessing our sins to God, receiving Jesus and the free pardon of our sins. We are brought into God’s family, restored to a relationship with Him and given eternal life. It is a miracle of grace!
Maybe for the first time in our lives, we really paused and looked at the cross, saw the most amazing spectacle there. We saw the holy and pure Son of God becoming sin for us, carrying our burdens and sorrows, bearing our sins in His own body, shedding His very life's blood as it pours from His wounds, breathing His last breath for us! And we see He is doing this for us! Sinners, wretched enemies of His, yet He died for us!
And so we stopped making excuses, stopped blaming other people or our past, and just acknowledged that we needed forgiveness and restoration. And as we confessed our sins, we found complete forgiveness, abundant pardon, peace with God, joy in believing, and so much more. We experienced wonderful "times of refreshing" as we came to faith in Jesus:
Acts 3:19-20 ESV Repent therefore, and turn back, that your sins may be blotted out, (20) that times of refreshing may come from the presence of the Lord, and that he may send the Christ appointed for you, Jesus.
Question 1. Do you remember when you first repented and confessed your sins to God and experienced these “times of refreshing”? What was it like?
