Lesson 21 Warring Against the Flesh, Fleeing Temptation

Questions 1 and 2

Dear friend, so glad to have you back!
Please read our passage for today:
1 Corinthians 6:15-20 ESV Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? Never! (16) Or do you not know that he who is joined to a prostitute becomes one body with her? For, as it is written, “The two will become one flesh.” (17) But he who is joined to the Lord becomes one spirit with him. (18) Flee from sexual immorality. Every other sin a person commits is outside the body, but the sexually immoral person sins against his own body. (19) Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, (20) for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.

As the Corinthians committed sexual impurity, they were taking “the members of Christ” and making them “members of a prostitute.” And this is the problem with all sexual impurity whether it involves prostitutes or not. We are becoming “one flesh,” either in our minds through pornography, or in our actions through immorality, with another, thereby dragging the “members of Christ” into impurity.
If we have believed in Jesus, we’ve been joined together with Him in an intimate union (1 Corinthians 6:17). We have become one in spirit with Him. This intimacy is what sexual oneness pictures, the becoming of “one flesh” with another telling us of the joy of intimacy with Jesus.
Because of this closeness all believers have with Christ, God gives us a strong command:
