Lesson 22 Washing at the Cross, Remember Our Cleansing
Questions 1 and 2
Today, we are going to look at a passage that teaches us about the need to grow and mature in our faith, and to become fruitful in our lives and ministry, and exactly how to do so.
But it also teaches us the exact reason why we, at times, can stop growing, turn inward, go back to sinful bondage and become completely derailed in our Christian walk. Let’s examine it together. Please read this passage:
2 Peter 1:3-9 "His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, (4) by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire. (5) For this very reason, make every effort to supplement your faith with virtue, and virtue with knowledge, (6) and knowledge with self-control, and self-control with steadfastness, and steadfastness with godliness, (7) and godliness with brotherly affection, and brotherly affection with love. (8) For if these qualities are yours and are increasing, they keep you from being ineffective or unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ. (9) For whoever lacks these qualities is so nearsighted that he is blind, having forgotten that he was cleansed from his former sins."
Question 1. According to 2 Peter 1:3, how do we get access to God’s divine power for life and godliness?
It’s clear that power for living a godly life comes through a growing knowledge of God. This is why it is essential to find a Bible believing, gospel teaching church, and why we focus on the gospel here (and seek to help with the application of it).
Question 2. According to 2 Peter 1:4, how do we escape the corruption that is in the world caused by evil desires?
