Lesson 11 Warring Against the Flesh, Jesus Won the Battle
Questions 1 and 2
Welcome back! For the next few lessons we will be discussing how to War against the flesh.
The Bible tells us that Jesus Christ came to this earth and declared war on the kingdom of darkness. At the cross, Jesus fought the devil, defeated him, and plundered his kingdom (Colossians 2:15). He did this to rescue us out of captivity and put us in His own kingdom (Colossians 1:13).
Mark 3:26-27 ESV And if Satan has risen up against himself and is divided, he cannot stand, but is coming to an end. (27) But no one can enter a strong man's house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man. Then indeed he may plunder his house. Jesus told the above parable to show us what He came to this earth to do.
All through Jesus’ life He fought and overcame the powers of evil. As the Light of the world, He pursued darkness, chased it out and defeated it. He gave sight to the blind, hearing to the deaf and life to the dead. He healed lepers, cast out demons, enabled paralyzed people to walk and, most importantly, forgave sins.
But it was at the cross that Jesus dealt the final death blow to the evil one. There Jesus “bound the strong man” so that He could “plunder his house,” that is, rescue us from the devil’s kingdom. Notice this passage:
Hebrews 2:14-15 ESV Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise partook of the same things, that through death he might destroy the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil, (15) and deliver all those who through fear of death were subject to lifelong slavery.
Question 2. According to Hebrews 2:14-15 how did Jesus destroy the one who has the power of death (the devil)?
