Lesson 11 Warring Against the Flesh, Jesus Won the Battle

Questions 3, 4 and 5

Notice this passage:
Colossians 1:12-14 NIV and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. (13) For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, (14) in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Yes, the cross was a rescue mission by the ‘special forces’ of heaven, sent on your behalf to free you from the dominion (power, authority) of darkness, the oppression of Satan and the power of sin.
Just think of it: Jesus pursued darkness, demons and the devil clear to the end, all the way to death. He died in rescuing you. But three days later He was raised from the dead, vindicated by the Spirit of God, and exalted to the highest heaven.
And, friend, like Jesus, we are to declare war on our flesh, on darkness, on deception, on lust and overcome it. We are to put to death that which is intent on destroying us, knowing that Jesus secured our victory on the cross.
2 Corinthians 10:5 NIV We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.

Question 4. Please share your plan on how you are fighting against your flesh and the arguments the devil uses in your life.

Notice from 2 Corinthians 10:5 what we are fighting: “arguments...against the knowledge of God…and take captive every thought.”
Maybe you’ve been in bondage to thoughts of impurity, those images that can burn themselves into our memory. Satan wants to use those images to trap us and keep us captive to gratifying our flesh.
Additionally, Satan knows that as long as our minds stay warped in impurity we will harbor wrong thoughts against God, accusing and blaming Him, and those arguments against Him will keep us trapped. It is indeed a vicious cycle.
These are the very thoughts (“arguments that set themselves up against God”) that we must learn how to fight.
We have studied the following illustration in Purity Bootcamp, but we will look at it once more to be reminded of the power of the cross and to show us how to fight this battle. Please notice the following passage and provide your comments below:
Exodus 17:8-13 NIV The Amalekites came and attacked the Israelites at Rephidim. (9) Moses said to Joshua, "Choose some of our men and go out to fight the Amalekites. Tomorrow I will stand on top of the hill with the staff of God in my hands." (10) So Joshua fought the Amalekites as Moses had ordered, and Moses, Aaron and Hur went to the top of the hill. (11) As long as Moses held up his hands, the Israelites were winning, but whenever he lowered his hands, the Amalekites were winning. (12) When Moses' hands grew tired, they took a stone and put it under him and he sat on it. Aaron and Hur held his hands up—one on one side, one on the other—so that his hands remained steady till sunset. (13) So Joshua overcame the Amalekite army with the sword.
