Let this draw you to Jesus. Let it pull you, like a powerful magnet, right to Him. After all, that’s why He died, “the righteous for the unrighteous, to bring you to God!” (1 Peter 3:18).
Now, like most powerful teachings in the Bible, there is an illustration of this truth, that the cross draws us to Jesus, in the Old Testament. Remember, we are supposed to see Jesus and the gospel in every Scripture (Luke 24:25-27, 1 Corinthians 15:1-6, Romans 16:25-26), so let’s do that:
2 Kings 6:1-7 NIV The company of the prophets said to Elisha, “Look, the place where we meet with you is too small for us. Let us go to the Jordan, where each of us can get a pole; and let us build a place there for us to meet.”
Then one of them said, “Won’t you please come with your servants?”
“I will,” Elisha replied. And he went with them.
They went to the Jordan and began to cut down trees. As one of them was cutting down a tree, the iron axhead fell into the water. “Oh no, my lord!” he cried out. “It was borrowed!”
The man of God asked, “Where did it fall?” When he showed him the place, Elisha cut a stick and threw it there, and made the iron float. “Lift it out,” he said. Then the man reached out his hand and took it.
Question 4. As these men went to the Jordan to begin building a place to meet with Elisha the prophet, what went wrong?
The men were hard at work cutting down trees when suddenly an iron axhead fell into the water. It sunk in the water and was presumably lost. This was a problem because the ax was borrowed and the men did not want to have to explain to the owner that they broke his ax and that the axhead was lost at the bottom of the river Jordan.
Question 5. When they told Elisha about the problem, what did he do?
