Lesson 50 Warring Against the Flesh: Abiding in the Vine
Testimony and Question 8
Mick writes, "I was exposed to pornography by my brother when I was 7 or 8 years old. I then discovered my dad's stash of soft porn and would watch it regularly. My teen years were a pursuit of sexual encounters with girls. In my 20's came internet access with even more access to pornography. I was lost and dead in sin.
But then, I encountered the Bible in my workplace, and God radically transformed me by His grace and gave me a new life. At that time, I left behind a life of drugs and alcohol, but I couldn't seem to stop porn. I would watch it sporadically, and then after getting married for a couple of years, things were ok. Then I changed work, and I was at home more with time on my hands and internet access, and I began falling to sexual impurity every two to three months or so.
One day I heard a friend talking about an online purity course, and I searched it out and discovered Setting Captives Free. For the first time in about ten years, the gospel of Jesus Christ has become real and fresh. I've understood how to apply the gospel to my life, and I'm tremendously thankful. I am no longer relying on my own willpower to stay free from sexual sin. It is only by continually gazing at the cross of Christ that I can be free. It's not that I'm now trying to stay free from porn; instead, I'm getting deeper into the gospel which is keeping me from sexual sin. I'm set in a new direction - towards Christ. Thank you."
