Lesson 24: Washing at the Cross: Fixing our Eyes on Jesus

Questions 6 and 7

Do you see it, friend? God has hung a cross right in the middle of your world and has called you to fix your eyes on it. To become preoccupied with the One who died on it. To purposefully stare at it, to look continually so that you can lose all your guilt and shame, see the death of all your condemnation, and begin to LIVE! Yes, this is what happens when we look, really look at the cross/resurrection of Jesus Christ!
And then we are told to focus on the resurrection of Jesus from the dead in great power, and His going back into heaven to intercede for us at the right hand of God.
If you look at Jesus rising from the dead, you will see that you have risen to new life with Him. “We know that Christ, being raised from the dead, will never die again; death no longer has dominion over him. 10 For the death he died he died to sin, once for all, but the life he lives he lives to God. 11 So you also must consider yourselves dead to sin and alive to God in Christ Jesus” (Romans 6:9-11).
By looking at Jesus’ resurrection, you will see that He triumphs over all evil powers, rising victorious over sin and death, Satan and hell. And you will see that this very resurrection power is available for you, to raise you from the grave of pornography and any other form of sexual sin. Jesus triumphed over sin and death, you will be victorious over pornography and sexual impurity, over anger and rage, over depression and anxiety, over fear and timidity.
Do you see that resurrection power as Jesus rises up out of the grave? Do you know that power is for you? Notice below how all Jesus’ resurrection power is directed “toward us who believe!”
Ephesians 1:19-21 (ESV) and what is the immeasurable greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to the working of his great might 20 that he worked in Christ when he raised him from the dead and seated him at his right hand in the heavenly places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and above every name that is named, not only in this age but also in the one to come.

Friend, Hebrews 12:1-3 has given us the help we need to be free from impurity! It told us to listen to those who have gone before us, lay aside all weight of sin so we can run our race, and look to Jesus in His death and resurrection. Now you have somewhere to focus all your attention, a Person with whom to become preoccupied, and a message worth living and dying for, that Jesus “loved you and gave Himself for you” (Galatians 2:20).

Question 7. Considering the message of this lesson today, if you become very preoccupied with the cross/resurrection of Jesus, what will that do for you?
