Lesson 29 Warring Against the Flesh, Praying God’s Word

Questions 6 and 7

Here is my prayer from Ephesians 6:16:
Father in Heaven, thank you for the shield of faith! As I hear and see the cross once again today, I believe it! I purposefully put faith in the good news of my sins forgiven through your Son paying my penalty in death. I believe what you say about me, that “such WERE some of you, but you were washed, sanctified and justified!” (1 Corinthians 6:11). And as I exercise faith in the cross/resurrection of Jesus, it becomes a shield to me. The devil’s fiery darts cannot penetrate through the shield of faith; they cannot light my heart on fire with lust, they cannot knock me over and lay me in the dust with my mind inflamed with sinful pictures. No, your shield of faith blocks them all! Lord, please help me to go about my day rejoicing in the cross, praising you for the power it gives me through forgiveness and the removal of my guilt. Praise the Lord!

John writes, "Lord guard my mind with the helmet of salvation, help me to remember Your death in the cross that paid my debt and Your resurrection that promises new life. Let me be diligent with the sword of your word, cutting down the lies that deceived me for too long. Help me wield Your truth against the devil. Thank you God for the provision you give in this fight."
Dear friend, you are a soldier! This life is not a life of ease or entertainment, but a life of fighting the devil and warring against our flesh. Fight, soldier, fight! Don’t lounge around in lust, but stand up, suit up and fight!
But always remember you are fighting from a position of victory. Jesus won the battle for you on the cross, and you are to rest in His victory, relax in His love, even as you fight in His mighty power.
