Lesson 30 Walking by the Spirit: How to Quench Our Thirst

Questions 6, 7 and 8

Let’s close out our time together by looking at some clear teaching about how we find this lasting freedom in and through the Holy Spirit.
Please study the passage below and answer the questions:
Galatians 5:16-23 ESV But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. (17) For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. (18) But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. (19) Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, (20) idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, (21) envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (22) But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, (23) gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law.

What the Bible teaches us here is not so much about stopping certain behaviors as it is about walking by the Spirit. This is because walking by the Spirit overrides the natural desires of the flesh.
So, our focus should be on what it means to walk by the Spirit, to live in the power of the Spirit, to be energized and actuated by the Holy Spirit. For this is how we find freedom from the domination of the flesh.

Question 8. How are you today? Is the good news of the cross breathing life into your heart? And if not, even if you are struggling or failing, please share with your mentor, who longs to pray for and with you, and share God’s own counsel from His Word.
