Lesson 30 Walking by the Spirit: How to Quench Our Thirst

Testimony and Question 9

Joseph writes, "I am only in my 20's, and so I am still a young man. But I hope there is someone out there who can relate to my story and be healed by the power of the gospel and this testimony.
I first sought out porn at the age of 13. I was a good Christian kid growing up, but I always had a curiosity about porn, and when I learned everyone in my youth group was involved in it, I felt like I was weird for not looking at it. So, I did, and it didn't take long for me to get trapped. I struggled with it for years until finally being caught by my parents, and then I gave it up for a long while.
Fast-forward several years, I got involved with a girl that I met online, and we developed an immoral relationship and began sexting each other (sending immoral texts). I instantly became addicted to this form of pornography because of the new thrill it gave me.
Several months later, the relationship ended, but my desire to continue sexting didn't. I ended up getting involved with a lot of girls online until finally, I was caught in my sin. I felt like a horrible person. I knew I had let everyone down. I was a Christian leader, and I ended up stepping down from my position. I felt I had reached the end of the line; that I was dead in my sins, and nothing could save me. But I confided in my pastor, and he pointed me to Setting Captives Free. He also went alongside me on my journey of restoration, and he became my online mentor and my accountability partner through the whole process.
Without his help and the help of Setting Captives Free, I would still be lost in my sins. But thanks be to God! He has given me victory over my sin and has saved me from the muck and the mire! Even though I didn't deserve it, God has redeemed me, and I praise him for it.
Now, I plan to live in God's light and share the message of God's great forgiveness with others, especially with those stuck in the pit of sexual impurity. I pray for all of you reading this that you may find healing and peace in Christ Jesus, our Savior. Amen."
