Lesson 25 Warring Against the Flesh - Overcoming Bitterness

Questions 6 and 7

So, the situation was a difficult one: the Israelites were tired and thirsty; they came to some water, but couldn’t drink it because it was bitter. Moses cried out to the Lord, and the Lord showed him a piece of wood. Moses threw the wood into the water, and the wood transformed the water from bitter to sweet and drinkable.
It is an odd solution. How did the piece of wood draw out all the bitterness from the water and leave it clean? I’ve never heard of a tree that miraculously transforms bitter water into pure, sweet water; have you?
We get some help with this story when we read in the New Testament:
“He himself bore our sins in his body on the tree, that we might die to sin and live to righteousness. By his wounds, you have been healed.” 1 Peter 2:24 (ESV)

Question 6. What does 1 Peter 2:24 call the place where Jesus bore our sins and healed us?
