Washing in the fountain that Jesus opened is the way to find freedom! But this is not a one-time event. Remember, this is a fountain, not a pond. A stagnant pond could become contaminated. But a fountain is always flowing, always fresh and new. It is a place for cleansing.
Now that we know where to wash, here’s how we wash at the cross: come to the cross and see Jesus being stretched out on it, Roman soldiers pounding nails into His hands and feet, blood running down from Jesus’ wounds. Watch as they raise the cross and set it in the ground. There is Jesus, hanging in broad daylight between heaven and earth, being rejected by both God and man.
But look there! It isn’t some random act of senseless violence. Jesus is being rejected, that you would be accepted. Jesus has taken your sin on Himself so that you would be counted as righteous. “God made him who had no sin to be sin for us so that in him we might become the righteousness of God” (2 Corinthians 5:21).
No matter what you have done, no matter how long you’ve done it, Jesus undid it! “...having canceled the charge of our legal indebtedness, which stood against us and condemned us; he has taken it away, nailing it to the cross” (Colossians 2:14).
As you look at Jesus hanging on the cross, blood pouring from His wounds, see Him as a fountain! A fountain for your cleansing! A fountain that will remove gluttony and laziness from your life as it has and continues to do in mine! Yes, every last ounce of gluttony is being washed away at the cross. Do you see this fountain flowing? Do you believe Jesus can cleanse you?
Do you know that your sin, past, present, and future, has been fully dealt with at the cross? And your guilt was entirely removed through Jesus’ death on the cross and resurrection from the dead as well. It is true. And think of this: if your guilt is gone, the “undertow” is gone!
Friend, this is the first principle of freedom: washing at the cross daily. You won’t believe how clean, pure, and free this washing makes us until you get in the habit of coming to the cross repeatedly.
In the next lesson, we will see the second principle, which will lead to you seeking God for a specific plan for weight loss; but for now, please take a moment and watch this video.
Question 6. What happens to sinners who are “plunged beneath that flood”?
The way that we are “plunged beneath the flood” is to come to the cross, hear the message it is saying to us and believe it, and do this over and over, for this is a flowing fountain!
The first foundational principle of freedom is called “Washing at the Cross.” In the next lesson, we will examine the second principle.
Question 7. According to the video above, what are the two extremes when it comes to weight loss?
