In the previous lesson, we reminded ourselves that the message of the cross is the power of God. Today we will learn why!
We know we need supernatural power to permanently turn from gluttony, miraculous power to eat differently and exercise consistently. Indeed, we must have the Holy Spirit's power to follow God’s daily plan for us and experience lasting freedom.
This need for spiritual power is why Paul focused His message on the cross of Christ:
“For I resolved to know nothing while I was with you except Jesus Christ and him crucified. 3 I came to you in weakness with great fear and trembling. 4 My message and my preaching were not with wise and persuasive words, but with a demonstration of the Spirit's power, 5 so that your faith might not rest on human wisdom, but on God's power” (1 Corinthians 2:2-5 NIV).
Question 2. According to 1 Corinthians 2:4 NIV, what came with Paul’s message of “Jesus Christ and Him crucified”?

Paul focused His message on Christ and His cross because that is the message that comes with the Holy Spirit's power! His power is supernatural, the same kind that Jesus used in changing water into wine, healing the sick, walking on water, and raising the dead!
And still today, Jesus changes gluttons into self-disciplined people. By His wounds, He heals us and enables us who used to sink into the deep waters of gluttony to walk above them instead. By Him living His life through us, we live differently! Such is the miraculous power all believers have available to us!
But how do we access this miraculous power? Paul told us, it is by hearing and believing the message of Christ crucified for our sins.
Question 3. According to 1 Corinthians 2:4 NIV, if you believe the message of the cross, in what is your faith resting?
