Lesson 1: Ongoing Heart Change

Question 7

If we consider that we are to glorify God whether we eat or drink, and in everything we do, it becomes apparent that we need a heart change to do so. After all, we’re born wanting to gratify and glorify ourselves, etc.
In this follow-up course, we will continue to pray for God to change our hearts daily in the area of eating and caring for our bodies so that with a new heart, we desire to glorify God in all that we do. We will also go deeper into the method God uses to change our hearts - the gospel of Jesus Christ and the Spirit of God.
And at the end of this course, I believe it will be evident to you that God has changed your heart, if it is not already, as you not only will have lost a significant (to you) amount of weight, but you will have the desire in your heart to keep it off for good.
As we close this lesson, please read through Psalm 51:1-10, noting where David asks God for a new and clean heart. Pray with me:
Prayer: Father in heaven, change my heart again today regarding food - how and what I eat. Help the desire to honor you in my eating and drinking, and everything I do, to surpass the desires of my flesh. Please help me remember today that Jesus purchased me at such a high price, and therefore I am to honor you with my body. In Jesus’ name, amen.
When I look back on how I used to eat and consider how I eat now, it is night and day different. It hurts me to think of how I used to gratify my flesh, turn to food for comfort, ignore God and His Word, eating, and living in a way that dishonored Him. The only explanation for this change is that God gives me a heart change, a new way of thinking regarding food, exercise, and how I care for my body.
I pray that God is changing your heart, too, and at the end of this study, you’ll be able to say, “Wow, God has changed my heart. I think differently about food and have different desires about eating and exercising now. Only God could have done this miraculous work!” In the next lesson, we will discuss the exact method that God has been using for thousands of years to change people’s hearts. I encourage you to seek Him every day for this change and then thank Him as you experience it.
