Lesson 26: Washing at the Cross: From Captivity to Freedom and Fullness

Testimony and Question 8

Molly writes: "The biblical principles of washing daily at the cross, walking by the Spirit, and waging war against the flesh have been extremely helpful in my walk with Christ. I have been able to discern my relationship with food and recognize how my relationship with God affects it.
Washing at the cross means seeking God first - having my first thoughts of the day centered around what Christ did for me. It means taking my eyes off my sin and fixing them on the One who paid for all of them. It has helped me to become less legalistic and licentious and to recognize those times when I am one or both of those things. When I have recognized the sin of gluttony and laziness, I don't beat myself up like I used to; instead, I am learning to repent quickly and remember the grace toward me in Christ. The levels of condemnation that I used to put myself under have decreased significantly since beginning this course.
Walking by the Spirit: I have long been looking to find out what this looks like in my daily life, and while a lot of it was in place before coming here, this course helped me recognize the times when I was not doing so. This course gave me a deeper, more meaningful understanding of walking by the Spirit means and how it looks. God's divine power has given us all we need for life and godliness through the true knowledge of Him who called us by His own glory and excellence. I have become more dependent on God and less self-reliant by learning this principle.
Warring against the flesh: I can better now discern the fiery darts of the enemy, the false teaching that is in the world, and the desires and evil cravings of my flesh regarding weight loss, dieting, food, and exercise. The light of the gospel has revealed many of the psychological and secular thoughts I had regarding weight loss, dieting, and exercise. God helping me, I will not continue to gratify my flesh's desires but instead walk by the Spirit and access the power that is within me, which is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead!
This course has helped me tremendously in so many ways, more than just with weight loss. My walk with the Lord has changed and become reignited. I have recognized that my relationship with food had become an idol and taken the place of my relationship with God in many ways. I was able to pinpoint specific sins and recognize that I had a problem with binge eating and the behaviors and attitudes associated with that struggle, which can be brought to the cross for healing. I am and can be delivered from this way of living to live in a way that pleases God and serves Him instead of serving my flesh.
The types of prayers that I pray for myself and others have changed significantly as well. It was wonderful to be able to practice praying Scripture!
This course was a blessing from God to me, and I am confident that it will continue to bless those who take it. It is a tool for Christians everywhere to learn how to apply biblical truth to an area of a besetting sin from which they need to be set free!
I recommend this course. At least one couple from my church has enrolled already. I have mentioned it to several others, and I know that as I continue to live out the example of the things that I have learned, people will ask how I did it; of course, God will get all the glory, but I will definitely be pointing them to this course that points them to Jesus Christ!"
