Lesson 26: Washing at the Cross: From Captivity to Freedom and Fullness

Questions 6 and 7

At the cross, your entire self ruled and dominated by the flesh was cut off and discarded, like a circumcision. As Jesus hung there on the cross, your entire old self hung with Him, and that past self that was ruled by the flesh was cut off from you and discarded in a grave.
Think of what this means! You and I are now free! Our flesh no longer rules over us, no longer dominates our lives, no longer dictates how we eat or live our lives. This freedom is the glory and power of the cross!
The Spirit of God takes us to the cross and lifts our heads to look up and see the events happening there. We see Jesus emptying Himself to fill us, being “cut off from the land of the living” (Isaiah 53:8 NIV) that our old selves dominated by the flesh might be cut off. We look, and the Holy Spirit circumcises our old self from us, cutting off that part of us that is base and low, removing that which dominated and captivated us. “...circumcision is a matter of the heart, by the Spirit…” (Romans 2:29 NIV).
Yes, at the cross, we go from being captive and empty to full and free!

Again Sue helps us understand this concept with her answer here:
"Because it is only this truth that will let me know that I am free from my old self. Seeing this as a picture helps my brain, mind and spirit fully understand what happened at the cross."
Chris, likewise, provides an excellent thought in her answer to the above question:
"So we can live in the freedom we've been given by Jesus. He set us free at the cross from our self-ruled life. Our old self died with Jesus and we rose with Him by God's grace and mercy to a new life. Jesus rules over our life with love, peace, joy, purposed to live for His glory in an abiding relationship with Him."
I’m praying that you are daily experiencing more of the freedom and fullness that Jesus purchased for you with His blood on the cross!
