Lesson 27: Physical Intimacy: Captivated by Love
Questions 3 and 4
Do you see how relentless the devil's seduction is? The adulteress worked hard at getting the man into her bed. She was everywhere, appealing to his eyes by dressing seductively. She aroused his body by touching and kissing him. She lured his ego by making him feel important with her words. She appealed to his senses with perfume, soft sheets, and a place prepared especially for him. And finally, she gave him time, all night long. And while her seduction is impressive and alluring upfront, we know that it leads to death (Proverbs 7:23).
The interesting thing about the adulteress woman is that what she does is only wrong because she does it with someone who is not her husband. And such is the devil’s way. He takes something beautiful (sexual attractiveness) and perverts it by directing it toward someone who is not the spouse.
We do not want to be like Adam, sitting back and allowing the evil one to seduce our spouse without interruption (Genesis 3). There is a right and God-glorifying way for our spouses to be stimulated sexually, which leads to joy and delight. And it is this way, this godly drawing, or enticement, which we will discuss for the rest of this lesson.
Question 3. What was the problem with the sexual seduction in Proverbs 7:10-22?
Sometimes in our zeal to abstain from every form of evil, we can forget to hold fast to that which is good (I Thessalonians 5:21-22).
I’ve met people who believe that sex is not meant to be enjoyed but only endured for procreation, but the Bible says otherwise. We saw from our study of Song of Solomon, God encourages couples to enjoy each other sexually.
In Proverbs 5:18-19 the instruction is given, “Let your fountain be blessed, and rejoice in the wife of your youth, a lovely deer, a graceful doe. Let her breasts fill you at all times with delight; be intoxicated always in her love.”
Question 4. In Proverbs 5:18-19, what are we instructed to do?
