Lesson 4 How to be a Helper

Questions 3 and 4

We look to Jesus. We should not look to our parents, siblings, or friends to save us, though certainly, if these individuals live their lives in line with the gospel, they will encourage our hearts and may be useful in our lives (Hebrews 10:24). But ultimately, we cannot look to any human to sustain us as we stand against the devil and learn how to help our husbands. Such a fight needs supernatural power, which can only come from our precious Savior Jesus.

Question 3. According to Hebrews 12:3, what about Jesus should we “consider” so that we do not grow weary and lose heart?

Oh, friend, Jesus endured a horrible and agonizing death on the cross so that we might be forgiven of our sins and filled with His Spirit. No agony we ever face in this life is ever going to come close to what Jesus endured. No battle we fight will ever be near to the one Jesus encountered. He became sin for you and drank the full cup of God’s wrath for you, thus enabling you to be free of punishment.
This is good news for us because as we consider Christ and all that He has done on our behalf, we are filled with hope. Not only can we find healing and forgiveness for ourselves at the cross, but our spouses can be forgiven and restored as well.
Focusing on the cross, seeing Jesus’ sacrificial love, experiencing the forgiveness He purchased for you and the atonement He made for you will keep you from growing weary or fainthearted along the way.
