Lesson 3 – Joy
Question 10
Application: Let's return to the Cross and see the joy that is offered.
“Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. (10) For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption. (11) You will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures.” (Psalm 16:9-11 NKJV)
Do you know who is speaking in this Psalm? It says at the beginning that this Psalm is a Michtam of David. But I would like us to look at this Psalm from Jesus' perspective.
Let's look at these verses again: Jesus is praying:
“Therefore, my heart is glad, and my glory rejoices; My flesh also will rest in hope. (10) For You (Father) will not leave my soul in Sheol, Nor will You allow Your Holy One (Jesus) to see corruption. [Though Jesus experienced death and hell for us – He knew that He would raise from the tomb on the third day] (11) You (Father) will show me the path of life; In Your presence is fullness of joy; At Your right hand are pleasures [Forty days after the resurrection – Jesus ascended up into the clouds – to take His rightful place AGAIN at the right hand of the Father.]” (Psalm 16:9-11 NKJV)
(by the way – Peter did this with the Psalm in his first sermon in Acts 2:14-39)
10. How do you see the joy that Jesus is looking forward to when He returns to heaven after His resurrection from Psalm 16?
