How do we know God is good? Jesus said so:

“Now behold, one came and said to Him, "Good (agathos) Teacher, what good (agathos) thing shall I do that I may have eternal life?" (17) So He said to him, "Why do you call Me good (agathos)? No one is good (agathos) but One, that is, God. But if you want to enter into life, keep the commandments." (Matthew 19:16-17 NKJV)

We see Jesus saying that there is only One who is good, and that is God Himself.
