Lesson 5 – Longsuffering

Question 11

Jesus had only one attitude toward those who were causing His suffering: In silence, He suffered - praying: "Father forgive them; they do not know what they are doing." (Luke 23:34) I can imagine Jesus having this attitude of forgiveness during the whole time of His passion; consider with me….
Imagine Jesus in His silence – praying…
Jesus is betrayed by Judas with a kiss and wrongfully arrested – In silence.
Jesus is abandoned by His disciples - In silence.
Jesus is falsely charged to be put to death – In silence.
Jesus is spat upon in His face, blindfolded Him, beaten, slapped by those of the Sanhedrin – "who hit you?" In silence
Jesus is denied by Peter - In silence.
Jesus is bound and led to Pontius Pilate – In silence.
Jesus is retained over Barabbas – In silence.
Jesus is condemned by the crowd, "Crucify Him.!" – In silence.
Jesus is scourged and flogged at Pilate's command before sending Him to be crucified - In silence.
Jesus is humiliated by soldiers; scarlet robe, the crown of thorns – In silence.
Jesus is mocked; "Hail, King of the Jews." In silence
Jesus is spat upon by the soldiers, mocking Him, hitting His head with a reed, pulling out His beard. In silence
Jesus is forced to carry His Cross to Calvary – In silence.
Jesus is stripped of His clothing – In silence.
Jesus is crucified on a Cross – Jesus does say:
Jesus is mocked by the crowd wagging their heads – In silence.
Jesus is mocked by the religious leaders – "If You're the Christ, come down…"In silence.
Jesus is mocked by the two thieves – In silence.
Jesus is on the Cross for six hours, bearing our sins – At the very end, Jesus cries out in a loud voice: My God, My God, why have you forsaken me? Jesus' last words: “It is Finished” – He died.
Do you see Jesus' longsuffering for you? God has not destroyed you and taken you out – but waiting for you to repent – even you, Christian.
Are you still holding on to a grudge against another brother? Have you chosen to remain in your bitterness and withholding forgiveness?
Has God withheld forgiveness from you? No, He has not!

Only one way to deal with your bitterness - Will you come daily to the Cross and let that blood cleans your heart?
“This, I recall to my mind; therefore, I have hope. (22) Through the LORD's mercies, we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. (23) They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. (24) "The LORD is my portion," says my soul, "Therefore I hope in Him!" (Lamentations 3:21-24 NKJV)
Will you come and be crucified with Christ and learn to walk in the Spirit?
Will you suffer in silence and pray, "Father, forgive them, forgive me for holding this grudge and not walking with You.”
How often have you prayed, “The Lord’s prayer?”:
“And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.” (Matthew 6:12 NKJV)
If you have not forgiven – you are telling God – don't forgive me. Repent, ask God's forgiveness and ask forgiveness from those who you have hurt – seek reconciliation and leave it all at the foot of the Cross.
