Lesson 5 – Longsuffering

Question 10

Before we finish, let's return to the Cross

Application: Looking at Longsuffering from the Cross

“However, for this reason I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might show all longsuffering, as a pattern to those who are going to believe on Him for everlasting life.” (1 Timothy 1:16 NKJV)
“and consider that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation--as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given to him, has written to you,” (2 Peter 3:15 NKJV)
During Jesus suffering – He said nothing to defend Himself. He could have called for help.
"Or do you think that I cannot now pray to My Father, and He will provide Me with more than twelve legions of angels?” (Matthew 26:53 NKJV)
In the time of our Savior, probably one legion would consist of 6,200-foot soldiers and 300 horses.
Twelve of which would amount to 74,400-foot soldiers, 3600 horses = 78,000 angels armed for battle. But Jesus chose to remain silent and endure the suffering ahead.

10. Have you considered the silence of Jesus' suffering as His reaching out to you? Jesus chose to suffer at the hands of sinful men to bring salvation to all who would believe.
