Christian-love has God for its primary object and expresses itself first of all in implicit obedience to His commandments,
"If you love Me, keep My commandments. ... (21) "He who has My commandments and keeps them, it is he who loves Me. And he who loves Me will be loved by My Father, and I will love him and manifest Myself to him."... (23) Jesus answered and said to him, "If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. (John 14:15,21,23 NKJV)
"If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father's commandments and abide in His love. (John 15:10 NKJV)
Only Jesus kept the Father's commandment to fulfill the whole law and go to the Cross to die for unworthy sinners. By faith, we love and obey – Because Jesus did. So we walk, not perfectly – but we walk with Him.
"He who says, "I know Him," and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. (5) But whoever keeps His word, truly the love of God is perfected in him. By this we know that we are in Him. (6) He who says he abides in Him ought himself also to walk just as He walked." (1 John 2:4-6 NKJV)
"But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin." (1 John 1:7 NKJV)
It is the blood that cleanses as we walk daily there at the foot of the Cross. And our walk is also with fellow believers.
"Whoever believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves Him who begot also loves him who is begotten of Him. (2) By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God and keep His commandments. (3) For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not burdensome." (1 John 5:1-3 NKJV)
